I would describe it as detecting hostile behavior quickly, limiting blast radius, and responding before the attacker can move deeper into the environment. For a security engineer, that means building controls and detections that work in real production conditions, not just in theory. The best answer shows that security is about prevention, detection, and response together.

I would start with the process tree, command line, parent-child relationships, network activity, and any nearby identity or logon events. Then I would decide whether the alert looks like normal admin activity, a false positive, or a real intrusion attempt. Good investigation work is fast, structured, and based on evidence.

I would compare the alert to known-good behavior, look for supporting signals across telemetry sources, and check whether the behavior fits the user's or system's normal pattern. A true threat usually has context around persistence, lateral movement, privilege escalation, or unusual network behavior. The key is to validate with multiple signals instead of trusting one alert in isolation.

I would focus on process creation, command line arguments, file changes, network connections, registry changes, and persistence mechanisms. Then I would connect those pieces into a timeline so I can understand what the malware tried to do. The strongest answer shows that malware analysis is really about behavior, not just signatures.
