I would describe my original belief, the evidence that challenged it, and what I changed afterward. A strong answer shows intellectual honesty and the ability to update quickly when the data says the previous approach was not right.

I would look for problems that are both technically interesting and likely to matter in practice. I would consider impact, feasibility, and whether the work could change how future systems are built or evaluated.

I would compare them on robustness, calibration, safety behavior, efficiency, and performance on distribution shifts or adversarial cases. Benchmarks can hide important differences, so I would look for the model that is more reliable in realistic conditions, not just the one that scores slightly higher.

I would point to data quality, optimization stability, compute cost, evaluation difficulty, and alignment as major challenges. As models scale, the problem is no longer just getting them to learn; it is making sure they learn the right things and behave safely under real-world pressure.

I would track usage patterns, abnormal outputs, safety incidents, drift, and user feedback in a way that preserves privacy and supports quick intervention. Monitoring should be tied to clear escalation steps so the team can respond before a small issue becomes a serious one.
