I would start with a narrow hypothesis, build experiments around specific behaviors, and look for internal features or circuits that explain the model's output. A strong answer should show a balance between scientific curiosity and practical constraints, since large models can be difficult to analyze directly.

I would focus on scalable evaluation, robust oversight, interpretability, and methods that stay reliable as models become more agentic. The best answer shows that I can think both scientifically and strategically about where research could have the biggest impact.

I would include task success, safety constraints, harmful action prevention, recovery from mistakes, and behavior under ambiguous instructions. Because agentic models can take multi-step actions, the evaluation needs to test not just final answers but also intermediate decisions and failure recovery.

I would treat that as an evaluation gap and an incident response problem at the same time. First I would reduce risk in production, then analyze why the evals missed the behavior, and finally update the evaluation suite so the failure mode is covered in the future.

I would treat safety constraints as design requirements, not obstacles to be optimized away. The right balance depends on the deployment context, but in a frontier lab the discipline is to measure whether capability gains introduce new risks and to slow down if the risk surface changes materially.
